What's with all the paper?

Here are some macro shots of the new joomchi pieces.  I found that a layer of Ogura Lace paper speeds the agitation process.  Also, the coarseness of the fibers in the Ogura provide a resist for the Unryu (or Hanji as the case may be) to shrink against, creating more texture than usual.

Same piece held against the window.

So easy, even a four-year-old can do it...

Seeing as I've been lazy about getting this blog going (since the demise of iWeb...thanks again, Apple) you may not know what the deal is with the paper-based work.  I'll be giving a lecture and two day workshop on Joomchi at the Cleveland Museum of Art next summer. More on that next time.
